International Consortium of Journalists JMH – The jersey of Japan's star player, Takefusa Kubo, receives a touch of artistry from the Japanese embroidery collective Sashiko Gals for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Sashiko Gals highlights the group's mastery of traditional patchwork techniques while celebrating the nation's passion for world football.
Based in Otsuchi, Sashiko Gals has gained international renown for fusing centuries-old Japanese sewing methods with modern sportswear. Their latest creation reinterprets the official kit of the Japanese National Team, bringing a personal and human touch to the football jersey. The collective uses their signature basting stitches to form intricate geometric patterns on the fabric, reinventing the standard uniform and transforming it into a unique piece of wearable art.
The Selección Nacional of Argentina Team was impressed with this technique:
"We had the opportunity to see the work of the artisans of Sashiko Gals, and it would be an excellent idea to reinterpret it for a special jersey honoring the best player of all time, Lionel Messi. In a few days, I will present the idea to the Argentine National Team's training camp; the current World Champion (QATAR 2022)," said Dr. Javier Miglino Helfenstein, Director of the International Consortium of Journalists JMH.
