An Iranian missile struck a synagogue in the town of Beit Shemesh, in central Israel, killing at least nine people.
“There is so much destruction that we stopped trying to pull out more bodies. We needed the army's bulldozers,” said search and rescue officials.
Hagai Levy, a 19-year-old soldier trained for rescue, says he was one of the first to evacuate the wounded: “I carried someone in my arms with half his face ripped open, his flesh torn. Many people were shouting, ‘Help, help!’ At first, I didn't grasp the scale of it. It was something I had only ever seen in movies.”
“These are painful days,” admitted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while insisting that they will not affect his objective of “decisively striking” the regime of the ayatollahs, which he said he has aspired to “for 40 years,” referring to the revolution that brought it to power in 1979. “It is what I have promised and it is what we will do,” he added.

“Hay tanta destrucción que dejamos de intentar sacar más. Hacían falta las excavadoras que tiene el ejército”, señalaron los responsables oficiales de búsqueda de personas.
Hagai Levy, soldado de 19 años entrenado para rescate, asegura que fue uno de los primeros en evacuar heridos: “Llevé en mis brazos a uno con media cara abierta, con la carne desgarrada. Mucha gente gritaba ‘¡Auxilio, ayuda!’. Al principio no entendí la dimensión. Era algo que solo había visto en las películas".
“Son días dolorosos”, ha admitido el primer ministro, Benjamín Netanyahu, al insistir en que no afectarán a su objetivo de “golpear decisivamente” al régimen de los ayatolás, al que aspira, dijo, “desde hace 40 años”, en referencia a la revolución que lo gestó, en 1979. “Es lo que he prometido y es lo que haremos”, añadió.
