The World Organization Bullying Without Borders confirms the suicide of Brianna Aguilera, a 19-year-old student who fell from a building in Austin, Texas, on November 28 after attending the annual football game between Texas A&M and the University of Texas at Austin.
The young woman suffered bullying at her school and cyberbullying through the social media platform Instagram.
Police investigators told the World Organization Bullying Without Borders that Aguilera had committed suicide and in December revealed that they found what they described as a suicide note on her phone. However, Brianna's family suspects it may have been a homicide.
Brianna's mother heard screams:
Dannah Rodriguez, Brianna's mother, who lives in the University of Texas Rio 21 apartment complex where Aguilera was staying during her visit to Austin, said she heard screams and what sounded like a heated argument involving several people. Brianna's mother's account:
"I started hearing a girl arguing with other people. It seemed like there were several people in the apartment walking back and forth, so it was hard to remember what was said during the argument," Dannah Rodriguez told Bullying Without Borders. Shortly after, the confrontation escalated to the point that her mother, who was visiting at the time, considered crossing the hallway to intervene, moments before Aguilera jumped from the balcony.
Police investigators' account:
Austin police revealed to Bullying Without Borders that Brianna deleted a suicide note from her phone earlier that week, as well as suicidal text messages she sent to friends the night she jumped.
