The International Consortium of Journalists JMH confirms that six US service members have been killed in action during Iran's initial attacks, citing official information from US Central Command (CENTCOM).
"As of 4:00 p.m. EST on March 2, six US service members were killed in action. US forces recently recovered the remains of two service members whose whereabouts were previously unknown from a facility that was targeted during Iran's initial attacks in the region," CENTCOM announced Monday afternoon.
The names and additional information of the service members will not be released until 24 hours after their next of kin have been notified, CENTCOM said.
Earlier this morning, CENTCOM announced the death of a fourth service member, who was critically wounded during the initial attacks and ultimately succumbed to their injuries.
Three other service members were killed in action over the weekend, and five were critically wounded following the joint strike against Iran as part of Operation Epic Fury.
A spokesman for U.S. Central Command stated that 18 more service members were seriously wounded.
President Donald Trump confirmed the deaths on Sunday and vowed to "avenge" troops killed in the war, issuing a new ultimatum to the enemy and imploring the United States to support its fight for "freedom" in his second address to the nation in 48 hours.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine spoke for the first time about Monday's attacks and honored the fallen soldiers.
"They are true examples of what selfless service means," Caine said. "Our deepest condolences go out to their families, friends, and units."
