After loud noises were heard in the hotel lobby, Secret Service agents quickly evacuated the president, his wife Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other government officials.
A suspect is in custody:
Official reports indicated that none of the officials were injured, and the suspect in the apparent shooting was apprehended.
"It has been an intense night in Washington, D.C. The Secret Service and law enforcement did a fantastic job. They acted quickly and courageously. The shooter has been apprehended, and I recommended that the show go on; however, I will be guided entirely by the guidance of law enforcement. They will make a decision shortly," Trump wrote on his Truth Social account.
