The assailant stole a car while fleeing the scene and was pursued by law enforcement, who managed to neutralize him.

According to Shreveport police, the massacre was the result of a “domestic dispute.” Officers continued to gather information at the two affected homes and a third location south of downtown Shreveport.

During a press conference in front of one of the attacked homes, officials stated that the situation was of an unprecedented scale in the city and asked for patience and cooperation from the public while they addressed the multiple crime scenes. “I’m speechless, this affects us deeply,” said Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith. He added, “I can’t imagine how an event of this magnitude could have happened.”
Mayor Tom Arceneaux stated, “This is a serious incident, possibly the most serious we have faced as a community.”
Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry said in a statement that he and his wife are deeply saddened by what happened. He added, “We are deeply grateful to the law enforcement officers and emergency responders working tirelessly at the scene.”
