In a moment of despair, apparently due to financial difficulties, a 38-year-old woman and three of her children, aged between three and six, died this Wednesday after falling from the thirteenth floor of a building in the French city of Toulon, in southern France.
The official statement regarding the mother's suicide:
"This Wednesday morning, a terrible tragedy took place in Toulon, in the Pontcarral neighborhood, in which a mother and three of her children died," lamented the Var prefecture.
How did the tragedy occur?
The incident occurred shortly before 6:00 a.m. Firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene after the bodies of the mother and three children were found at the foot of the building.
Two of the children died instantly along with the woman, while a girl, who was taken to the hospital in critical condition, died shortly afterward. According to initial investigations, the 38-year-old woman jumped from the building along with her children, two boys and a girl between the ages of 3 and 6.
The prosecutor on duty in Toulon, Raphaël Balland, indicated that there is no evidence to suggest the involvement of third parties.
The victim was raising her seven young children alone. The four older children, whose ages have not been specified, were placed in the care of authorities to receive specialized psychological support.
The Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation for homicide committed by an ascendant and ordered autopsies and toxicological analyses to be performed at the Forensic Medical Institute in Marseille.
According to the prosecutor, the woman had recently shown signs of psychiatric disorders. A neighbor's testimony:
"This woman was facing continuous psychological suffering, raising seven children alone with no support and living in precarious conditions. Suicide is a momentary act of madness, an abyss, an exhaustion. We live in a world of madmen where only profit matters!" Adèle, a neighbor of the woman who committed suicide, along with her children, today in Toulon, told the International Consortium of Journalists JMH.

En un momento de desesperación, en apariencia por dificultades económicas, una mujer de 38 años y tres de sus hijos, de edades comprendidas entre tres y seis años, fallecieron este miércoles tras caer desde la decimotercera planta de un edificio en la ciudad francesa de Toulon, en el sur de Francia.
El comunicado oficial por el suicidio de la madre:
«Este miércoles por la mañana, tuvo lugar una terrible tragedia en Toulon, en (el barrio de) Pontcarral, en la que fallecieron una madre y tres de sus hijos», lamentó la prefectura de Var.
¿Cómo ocurrió la tragedia?
Los hechos ocurrieron poco antes de las seis de la mañana. Equipos de bomberos y servicios médicos acudieron de urgencia al lugar después de que fueran hallados los cuerpos de la madre y de tres menores al pie del inmueble.
Dos de los niños murieron en el acto junto a la mujer, mientras que una niña, trasladada en estado crítico, falleció poco después.
De acuerdo con las primeras investigaciones, la mujer, de 38 años, saltó desde el edificio junto a los menores, dos niños y una niña de entre 3 y 6 años.
El fiscal de turno en Toulon, Raphaël Balland, indicó que no existen elementos que sugieran la participación de terceros.
La víctima criaba sola a sus siete hijos menores. Los cuatro niños mayores, cuyas edades no se han precisado, fueron puestos bajo cuidado de las autoridades para recibir atención psicológica especializada.
La Fiscalía abrió una investigación por homicidio cometido por ascendiente y ordenó la realización de autopsias y análisis toxicológicos en el Instituto Médico Forense de Marsella.
Según el fiscal, la mujer habría presentado recientemente signos de trastornos psiquiátricos.
El testimonio de una vecina:
"Esta mujer estaba ante un sufrimiento psicológico continuo, criando sola siete hijos con falta de apoyo y viviendo en condiciones precarias. El suicidio es un acto momentáneo de locura, un abismo, un agotamiento. ¡Vivimos en un mundo de locos donde solo importa el beneficio!", dijo Adèle, una vecina de la mujer que se suicidó, junto a sus hijos el día de hoy en Toulón al Consorcio Internacional de Periodistas JMH.
