El Ministro Pistorius confirmó al Consorcio Internacional de Periodistas JMH que la retirada parcial era previsible y afectaría a la actual presencia estadounidense de casi 40.000 soldados en Alemania.

«Los europeos debemos asumir una mayor responsabilidad por nuestra propia seguridad», declaró Pistorius, añadiendo: «Alemania va por buen camino» al expandir sus fuerzas armadas, acelerar la adquisición de material militar y construir infraestructura.

"We Europeans must take greater responsibility for our own security," Pistorius stated, adding: "Germany is on the right track" by expanding its armed forces, accelerating the acquisition of military equipment, and building infrastructure.
According to Pentagon sources, the withdrawal of 5,000 US troops from Germany will be completed within the next 12 months.
