Infectious disease specialists in France confirmed to the JMH International Consortium of Journalists that the French woman infected with hantavirus on the MV Hondius cruise ship is in critical condition. She is currently receiving oxygen via a ventilator in the intensive care unit.
The most severe cardiopulmonary form:
A team of French specialists is treating the affected woman, but the professionals acknowledge the formidable challenge they face because the hantavirus has a very high mortality rate, and this case is particularly serious. The patient is receiving oxygen via a ventilator to, "we hope, overcome this phase," the head of the network of reference hospitals for epidemiological and bacteriological risks told the JMH Consortium on Tuesday.
Official statement:
"The patient is currently presenting with the most severe form of cardiopulmonary syndrome," and to ensure artificial oxygenation, she has an artificial lung and a blood shunt which, we hope, will allow her to get through this period while her lung, affected by the virus and vascular wall damage, recovers," declared Xavier Lescure, an infectious disease specialist at Bichat AP-HP Hospital, during a press conference at the Ministry of Health attended by the JMH International Consortium of Journalists.

En este momento está recibiendo oxígeno mediante un respirador en la unidad de cuidados intensivos.
La forma cardiopulmonar más grave:
Un equipo de especialistas franceses está atendiendo a la mujer afectada pero los profesionales admiten el terrible desafío en el que se encuentran porque el nivel de letalidad del hantavirus es muy alto y este caso es particularmente grave. La paciente está recibiendo oxígeno mediante un respirador para, "esperamos, superar esta fase", indicó el martes el responsable de la red de hospitales de referencia para riesgos epidemiológicos y bacteriológicos al Consorcio JMH.
Comunicado oficial:
"La paciente presenta hoy la forma más grave de cuadro cardiopulmonar", y para asegurar la oxigenación artificial, cuenta con un pulmón artificial y una derivación sanguínea que, esperamos, le permita superar este periodo mientras se recupera el pulmón, afectado por el virus y las lesiones de la pared vascular", declaró Xavier Lescure, especialista en enfermedades infecciosas del Hospital Bichat AP-HP, durante una rueda de prensa en el Ministerio de Sanidad en la que estuvo presente el Consorcio Internacional de Periodistas JMH.
