Al término de un set, se dirigió hacia su asiento y lanzó una botella de agua hacia la tribuna, donde se encontraba su padre. En ese trayecto, aparentemente perdió de vista a una recogepelotas que se hallaba frente a él y terminó chocándola, provocando que la joven perdiera la estabilidad.
Videos publicados y la imagen de BSF muestran que, tras el contacto, Jodar siguió caminando sin detenerse y levantó una mano en un gesto que ha sido interpretado como de frustración o molestia.
Tras su victoria, el español rechazó categóricamente las críticas y aseguró que nunca pondría a una recogepelotas en una situación semejante. «No la toqué», afirmó al ser consultado sobre el episodio.
Sin embargo, los videos y fotografías que circulan sobre la acción han generado cuestionamientos sobre lo sucedido.
La Organización Mundial Bullying Sin Fronteras pidió una aclaración sobre el incidente a la Organización de Roland Garros pero aún no han emitido una respuesta oficial.
