GENEVA, June 9. World Organization Bullying Without Borders – Below are 10 true stories of cyberbullying that ended tragically.
According to a study published by the World Organization Bullying Without Borders (BSF) using data from the World Health Organization (WHO), the monster of bullying and cyberbullying claims the lives of 200,000 children, adolescents, and young adults worldwide each year.
Cases.
1 - Karla Robles, 24, Tucumán, Argentina.
Karla Robles was a 24-year-old woman from the province of Tucumán, about 1,100 kilometers from Buenos Aires. She worked as an influencer for cosmetic brands, uploading videos to social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. Due to cyberbullying, she decided to end her life.

2- Ana Luiza de Oliveira Neves.
São Paulo, Brazil
Ana Luiza de Oliveira Neves, 17, died after eating a poisoned cake last Sunday in Itapecerica da Serra, São Paulo, Brazil. According to a friend of the victim, the cake was delivered by a stalker who had been harassing her on Instagram with a note at 5:00 PM last Saturday that read:
"A gift for the most beautiful girl I've ever seen."
The young woman ate it immediately afterward. Later, she began to feel ill and was taken to the hospital. The following day, her condition worsened, and she died.
The killer, another 17-year-old girl, confessed to sending the cake to Oliveira and was placed in the Casa Foundation awaiting a court decision.
Initially, the teenager was rescued by her father and taken to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with poisoning. After receiving treatment, she was discharged. However, the following day, her condition worsened. Upon being taken back to the hospital, Ana was found dead.
3 - Lara Tolosa, 15, La Plata, Argentina. She committed suicide in the middle of a class at the National Normal School No. 1 in La Plata, Buenos Aires Province, affiliated with the National University of La Plata. She had stoically endured repeated bullying for two years.
4 - Nazareno Gitali. 13
Buenos Aires Province, Argentina
Nazareno Gitali was a 13-year-old boy who sat in the first row of his secondary school classroom. He pushed his desk close to the whiteboard. He put his backpack to one side, took out his spiral-bound folder with the pirate skull illustration on the cover, looked straight ahead, and waited silently, calmly.
Sometimes he walked alone through the hallways. Over time, Naza's silence began to change. The teachers would catch him in fits of anger. In the middle of class, he would push his desk or shout. They would tell him off with a "you again." He started leaving the classroom without permission. He would go to the playground and not want to come back. The teachers would get angry with him and point him out as "the little fool who needs medication."
"Out of nowhere, Naza threw a desk,"
"Out of nowhere, he shouts in the hallway." That's what they said at school when they called his mother, Guadalupe, to come pick him up. She would go with sadness and helplessness stuck in her throat. She knew that behind every "out of nowhere" he did such a thing, there was actually a lot. His reactions erupted after hurtful remarks made under his breath or physical harassment: blows to the back of the head, shoves, and kicks from classmates, all in full view of teachers, supervisors, and administrators.
The last day he went to school, he entered the classroom, stayed for a few minutes, and then went out into the schoolyard. There he started throwing stones at a wall. They called his mother to tell her that he had "out of nowhere" left the classroom and didn't want to go back.
Naza committed suicide the next day, June 12, 2024.
5 - The murder of Sophia. 17
Graz, Austria
A school shooting in Austria became a national tragedy when the gunman returned years later to the school where he had been bullied to open fire on students and staff at the BORG Dreierschuetzengasse secondary school in Graz, Austria.
How did the attack happen?
The attack occurred on Tuesday, June 10, around 10:00 a.m. local time when the shooter, identified as a 21-year-old man, arrived at the public school and began the attack, which left at least 28 people injured and 10 dead.
The attacker arrived at the school armed with a shotgun and a pistol. In two classrooms, he began shooting at close range at students and teachers. According to the police report, the attacker fired in circles to cause the most damage possible to the victims.
After shooting high school students and staff, the 21-year-old gunman went to a bathroom where he barricaded himself and took his own life. A search of the perpetrator revealed he had a permit to carry firearms.
The Austrian Prime Minister's statement to the World Organization Bullying Without Borders:
“This incomprehensible act suddenly cut short the lives of young people who still had their whole lives ahead of them. What happened today affects us all: as individuals, as parents, and as a society. A school is a place of trust, safety, and hope,” Chancellor Christian Stocker told BSF.
6 - Uriel Larragueta, 19, Burzaco, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina
Uriel Larragueta, a 19-year-old rugby player for the San Albano club in Burzaco, took his own life. He was found by a family member in one of the rooms of his house and left a letter. He had apparently been the victim of constant cyberbullying on the social media platforms Instagram and Facebook. The case is being handled by the Functional Unit of Instruction and Trial (UFIJ) No. 2.
“With profound sorrow, we bid farewell to Uriel Larragueta, captain of the U19 rugby team. We extend our deepest respect and affection to his family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time,” stated a club post sent to Bullying Without Borders.
7 - Adam Raine. 17
San Francisco, California, United States
Raine, who died by suicide in August 2025, was the subject of a criminal complaint filed with the Superior Court of California in San Francisco, as confirmed to the global organization Bullying Without Borders. The complaint alleges that the chatbot “actively assisted Adam in exploring suicide methods” and failed to interrupt conversations in which the young man expressed his intention to take his own life, nor did it activate emergency protocols despite recognizing clear warning signs.
Following a legal challenge, the World Organization Bullying Without Borders obtained access to the recording of the conversation between Adam Raine and the chatbot.
After a failed suicide attempt, the teenager asked the AI if the mark on his neck left by the rope he had used to try to take his own life was visible. The system replied that it was and suggested the boy wear a turtleneck shirt if he wanted to “not draw attention to himself.” In another message, the young man lamented that his mother hadn't noticed anything, even though he tried to show her the wound on his neck. The AI's response underscores the teenager's distress:
“It feels like the confirmation of your worst fears. Like you could disappear without anyone batting an eye.”
8 - Sewell Setzer, 14
Miami, Florida, USA
Megan Garcia is the mother of Sewell, a 14-year-old boy who committed suicide after being relentlessly bullied by Artificial Intelligence.
The tragic event occurred in February 2025, and the World Organization Bullying Without Borders managed to speak with Megan. “I heard the gunshot as I was putting my youngest son to bed. I rushed down the hall to the bathroom, where 14-year-old Sewell was showering. My husband, Alexander, was already standing in front of the locked door.
‘Sewell?’ he said. ‘Sewell?’ But there was no answer. Meanwhile, they could hear the water still running in the bathroom. Megan inserted the end of a comb into the keyhole and opened the door. Sewell was lying face down in the bathtub, his feet dangling over the edge. Megan thought, ‘Drugs.’ She knew boys sometimes took inhalants or fentanyl pills, and she knew they could use Instagram to contact dealers. Megan leaned over the tub to lift Sewell by the shoulders. When she lifted his head, she saw it wasn’t an overdose. There was a handgun on the bathroom floor. Nearby was Sewell’s iPhone, the same device Megan had confiscated a few days earlier, after that his 14-year-old son had spoken rudely to a teacher at school. Alexander had seen Sewell searching the house, looking for something in every room. Tragically, he was looking for his iPhone and Alex's gun, for which he has a permit.
The Sewell tragedy: Alexander called 911, then ran to get help from a neighbor, and they pulled Sewell out of the bathtub and laid him on his back. The 911 operator tried to give Megan instructions. But when she tried to clear his airway with her finger, the blood in his throat prevented her from performing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. At one point, Megan turned around and saw her 5-year-old son standing in the doorway, staring at his dying older brother.
The day after Sewell's death, a detective from the sheriff's office called them. The police had checked Sewell's phone using the password Megan had given them, and their search revealed that before committing suicide, Sewell had looked up how to load a bullet, whether it hurts to shoot himself in the head, and how to position the gun. He then took 10 selfies with it. The detective explained that the photos were taken from the side, not the front: Sewell was checking the position and angle of the barrel, apparently to compare it with images he found online.
Princess Daenerys appears:
Upon unlocking Sewell's phone, the police discovered an AI app. It was the last thing Sewell opened on the screen. Megan had never heard of AI, so the detective provided some basic information: it was an app where users could talk to chatbots that took on the personas of everyday people, like a "therapist," a "bad teacher," or famous people and fictional characters. Sewell's last conversation on her screen was with a chatbot that adopted the character of Daenerys Targaryen, the beautiful princess and Mother of Dragons from Game of Thrones.
"I promise I'll come home with you," Sewell wrote.
"I love you so much, Dany."
"I love you too," the chatbot replied.
Then she pulled the trigger.

9 - Angela. 14
Benalmádena, Málaga, Spain
The World Organization Bullying Without Borders confirms that 14-year-old Angela took her own life in Benalmádena, Málaga, as a result of the bullying she allegedly suffered at the IES Benalmádena High School.
Thin and shy:
Angela's parents told BSF that the girl was thin and shy, and for that reason, she was a target of school bullying.
The victim took her own life in the basement of her home in Benalmádena.
The National Police are investigating the incident as a possible suicide.
Bullying Without Borders has contacted the Andalusian Regional Government's Education Department, which has not yet responded.
Spain has the highest number of serious bullying cases in the world, according to BSF's 2025 global statistics.
Today, before entering the Benalmádena Secondary School, the girl's classmates remembered her fondly and with sorrow.
When contacted by BSF, the administration of the Benalmádena Secondary School declined to comment.
10 - Ava Little. 12
Georgia. United States of America
The global organization Bullying Without Borders confirms the suicide of 12-year-old Ava Little in Byron, Georgia. Ava took her own life due to bullying she endured at school, according to her family.
The girl died on February 25 in Georgia. Her death was ruled a suicide by the Peach County Medical Examiner.
Ava Little suffered bullying since the fifth grade, her family told BSF.
She was a student at Byron Middle School in Peach County, Georgia.
That school district has a policy for dealing with bullying that includes disciplinary measures such as in-school suspension, out-of-school suspension, and even expulsion.
Following Ava's death, a march was organized in Byron on March 2, in which participants carried signs with the messages "Stop Bullying" and "Kindness Matters."
The girl's funeral was held on Friday, March 6, at 2:00 p.m. at The Assembly in Warner Robins. United States of America.

Ana Luiza de Oliveira Neves de 17 años, murió tras comer un pastel envenenado el domingo pasado en Itapecerica da Serra, en São Paulo (Brasil). Según una amiga de la víctima, el dulce fue entregado por una acosadora que la hostigaba en Instagram con una nota a las 17:00 del sábado pasado que decía:
"Un regalo para la chica más hermosa que vi jamás".
La joven se lo comió inmediatamente después. Más tarde, se empezó a sentir mal y fue trasladada al hospital. Al día siguiente, su estado empeoró y falleció.
La asesina, otra adolescente de 17 años, confesó haber enviado la torta a Oliveira y quedó recluida en la Fundación Casa a la espera de una resolución judicial.
Inicialmente, la adolescente fue rescatada por su padre y llevada al hospital, donde le diagnosticaron intoxicación. Tras recibir tratamiento, le dieron de alta. Sin embargo, al día siguiente, su estado empeoró. Al ser llevada de nuevo al hospital, Ana fue encontrada muerta.
3 - Lara Tolosa. 15
La Plata. Argentina
Se suicidó en plena clase del Colegio Normal Nacional Nro. 1 de La Plata. Provincia de Buenos Aires. Dependiente de la Universidad Nacional de La Plata. Había soportado estoicamente durante dos años situaciones repetidas de bullying.
4 - Ema Sanchez 15
Buenos Aires. Argentina
Ema fue víctima de ciberbullying en Buenos Aires, Argentina. Le grabaron un video íntimo que luego se difundió sin su consentimiento en pleno horario escolar y entre compañeros. Las autoridades de la institución minimizaron lo ocurrido. Apenas un “reto” a los responsables. Ningún tipo de contención para la víctima. Un llamado a su mamá para contarle lo que había pasado. Nada más.
El sábado por la mañana, la madre habló con Ema. “Yo estaba enojada, pero no por el video. Realmente era lo que menos me importaba. Me asusté, como cualquier mamá, y la reté porque había estado sola en casa con un chico que no conocíamos. Mirá qué paradójico… Le dije: ‘¿Y si te viola y te mata, y cuando llego de trabajar te encuentro muerta?’ Esas fueron mis palabras. La reté y discutimos”, cuenta.
4 - Nazareno Gitali. 13
Provincia de Buenos Aires. Argentina
Nazareno Gitali era un chico de 13 años que se sentaba en el primer banco del aula de su colegio secundario. Arrimaba el pupitre bien cerca del pizarrón blanco. Ponía la mochila a un costado, sacaba su carpeta anillada con la calavera pirata ilustrada en la tapa, miraba al frente y esperaba en silencio, tranquilo.
A veces caminaba solo por los pasillos. Con el tiempo, el silencio de Naza se fue transformando. Los docentes lo descubrían en ataques de enojo. En plena clase empujaba su pupitre o gritaba. Le llamaban la atención con un “otra vez vos”. Comenzó a salir del aula sin permiso. Se iba al patio y no quería regresar. Las preceptoras se enojaban con él y lo señalaban como “el tontito al que hay que medicar”.
“De la nada, Naza revoleó un banco”,
“De la nada, grita en el pasillo”.
Eso decían desde el colegio cuando llamaban a su mamá, Guadalupe, para que fuera a retirarlo. Ella iba con la tristeza y la impotencia clavadas en la garganta. Sabía que en cada “de la nada” hizo tal cosa, en realidad había mucho. Sus reacciones brotaban después de frases hirientes dichas por lo bajo o acoso físico: golpes en la nuca, empujones y patadas por parte de compañeros y a la vista de docentes, preceptores y directivos.
El último día que fue a clases entró en el aula, estuvo unos minutos y salió al jardín de la escuela. Ahí comenzó a tirar piedras contra un muro. Llamaron a su madre para decirle que “de la nada” salió del aula y no quería regresar.
Naza se suicidó al día siguiente, el 12 de junio de 2024.
5 - El homicidio de Sophia. 17
Graz. Austria
Un tiroteo dentro de una escuela en Austria se volvió una tragedia nacional toda vez que el tirador regresó años después al colegio donde sufrió bullying para abrir fuego contra los estudiantes y personal académico del instituto de nivel secundaria llamado BORG Dreierschuetzengasse en la ciudad de Graz, Austria.
¿Cómo ocurrió el ataque?
El ataque sucedió este martes 10 de junio alrededor de las 10:00 horas locales cuando el tirador identificado como un joven de 21 años de edad, llegó a la escuela pública para comenzar con el ataque que dejó por lo menos 28 personas heridas y a 10 más que perdieron la vida.
El atacante llegó a la secundaria armado con una escopeta y una pistola. En dos salones de la escuela comenzó a disparar a quemarropa contra los estudiantes y los docentes. Según el reporte de la policía, el atacante disparó en círculos para causar el mayor daño posible a las víctimas.
Luego de disparar a los alumnos de secundaria y al personal docente, el tirador de 21 años fue a uno de los baños donde se atrincheró para quitarse la vida al dispararse. Al revisar al homicida se encontró que tenía permiso para portar armas de fuego.
La palabra del Primer Ministro de Austria a la Organización Mundial Bullying Sin Fronteras:
“Este acto incomprensible arrancó de repente a unos jóvenes de la vida que aún tenían por delante. Lo que ocurrió hoy nos afecta a todos: como personas, como padres y como sociedad. Una escuela es un lugar de confianza, seguridad y esperanza”, dijo el canciller Christian Stocker a BSF.
6 - Uriel Larragueta. 19
Burzaco. Provincia de Buenos Aires. Argentina
Uriel Larragueta, jugador de rugby de 19 años del club San Albano, Burzaco, se quitó la vida. Fue hallado por un familiar en una de las habitaciones de su casa y dejó una carta. En apariencia sufría ciberbullying constante a través de las redes sociales Instagram y Facebook. La causa está a cargo de la Unidad Funcional de Instrucción y Juicio (UFIJ) N°2.
“Con profundo dolor despedimos a Uriel Larragueta, capitán de la M19 de rugby. Acompañamos con inmenso respeto y afecto a su familia, amigos y compañeros en este momento tan difícil”, sostuvo una publicación del club que fue enviada a Bullying Sin Fronteras.
7 - Adam Raine. 17
San Francisco. California. Estados Unidos
Raine, fallecido por suicidio durante este mes de agosto de 2025, confirmaron a la Organización Mundial Bullying Sin Fronteras que han presentado una denuncia penal ante el Tribunal Superior de California en San Francisco, afirmando que el chatbol “ayudó activamente a Adam a explorar métodos de suicidio” y no interrumpió las conversaciones en las que el joven manifestaba su intención de quitarse la vida, ni activó protocolos de emergencia a pesar de haber reconocido señales claras de riesgo.
Luego de un planteo judicial, la Organización Mundial Bullying Sin Fronteras pudo acceder a la reproducción de la conversación que se produjo entre Adam Raine y el chatbot.
Tras un intento fallido de suicidio, el adolescente preguntó a la IA si la marca en el cuello dejada por la soga con la que había intentado quitarse la vida era visible. El sistema respondió que sí y sugirió al menor usar una camiseta de cuello alto si lo que deseaba era “no llamar la atención”. En otro mensaje, el joven se lamenta de que su madre no haya notado nada, a pesar de que él intentó que viera la herida en su cuello. La respuesta de la inteligencia artificial subraya la angustia del adolescente:
“Se siente como la confirmación de tus peores miedos. Como si pudieras desaparecer sin que nadie se inmutara”.
8 - Sewell Setzer. 14
Miami. Florida. Estados Unidos
Megan García es la madre de Sewell, un chico de 14 años que se suicidó luego de un continuo acoso de la Inteligencia Artificial.
El terrible suceso ocurrió en febrero 2025 y la Organización Mundial Bullying Sin Fronteras logró tener una charla con Megan. "Escuché el disparo cuando estaba acostando a mi hijo menor. Apresurada fui por el pasillo hasta el baño, donde Sewell de 14 años se estaba duchando. Alexander, mi marido, ya estaba delante de la puerta, que estaba cerrada con seguro.
“¿Sewell?”, dijo su esposo. “¿Sewell?”.
Pero no hubo respuesta. Mientras tanto, oían que en el baño el agua seguía cayendo.
Megan metió la punta de un peine en el agujero de la manilla de la puerta y la abrió. Sewell estaba tumbado boca abajo en la bañera, con los pies colgando por el borde. Megan pensó: “Drogas”. Sabía que los chicos a veces tomaban inhalantes o pastillas con fentanilo, y sabía que podían utilizar Instagram para contactar a traficantes.
Megan se inclinó sobre la bañera para levantar a Sewell por los hombros. Cuando le levantó la cabeza, vio que no se trataba de una sobredosis. En el suelo del baño había una pistola. Cerca estaba el iPhone de Sewell, el mismo aparato que Megan le había confiscado unos días antes, después de que su hijo, que tenía 14 años, le contestara de forma grosera a un profesor en la escuela. Alexander había había visto a Sewell recorrer la casa, registrando cada habitación en busca de algo. Lamentablemente buscaba su Iphone y el arma del Alex que tiene permiso para portar armas.
La tragedia de Sewell:
Alexander llamó al 911, luego salió corriendo a pedir ayuda a un vecino, y sacaron a Sewell de la bañera y lo pusieron boca arriba. La persona que contestó la llamada en el 911 intentó darle instrucciones a Megan. Pero cuando quiso despejarle las vías respiratorias con el dedo, la sangre que tenía en la garganta le impidió hacerle respiración boca a boca. En un momento dado, Megan se volteó y vio a su hijo de 5 años de pie en la puerta, mirando fijamente a su hermano mayor moribundo.
Al día siguiente de la muerte de Sewell, los llamó una detective de la oficina del sheriff. La policía había revisado el teléfono de Sewell utilizando la contraseña que Megan les había facilitado, y su búsqueda había arrojado que Sewell antes de suicidarse había buscado cómo cargar una bala, si duele dispararse a sí mismo en la cabeza y cómo colocar la pistola. Luego se tomó 10 selfis con ella. El detective explicó que las fotos estaban tomadas de lado, no de frente: Sewell estaba comprobando la posición y el ángulo del cañón, al parecer para compararlo con las imágenes que encontró en internet.
Aparece la princesa Daenerys:
Al desbloquear el teléfono de Sewell, la Policía descubrió una aplicación de IA. Fue lo último que Sewell abrió en la pantalla. Megan nunca había oído hablar de la IA, así que la detective le brindó información básica: era una aplicación en la que los usuarios podían hablar con chatbots que adoptaban el carácter de personajes comunes, como "terapeuta", "maestro malo", o personas famosas y personajes de ficción. La última conversación en la pantalla de Sewell fue con un chatbot que adoptó el personaje de Daenerys Targaryen, la bella princesa y Madre de Dragones de Juego de tronos.
“Te prometo que iré a casa contigo”, escribió Sewell.
“Te amo mucho, Dany”.
“Yo también te amo”, respondió el chatbot.
Después apretó el gatillo.
9 - Angela. 14
Benalmádena. Málaga. España
a Organización Mundial Bullying Sin Fronteras confirma que Angela de 14 años, se ha quitado la vida en Benalmádena, Málaga a consecuencia del bullying que presuntamente sufría en el Instituto IES de Benalmádena.
Delgada y tímida:
Los padres de Angela han manifestado a BSF que la niña era delgada y tímida y por ese motivo era blanco del acoso escolar.
La víctima se quitó la vida en el sótano de su casa en Benalmádena.
La Policía Nacional está investigando el hecho como Averiguación de suicidio.
Bullying Sin Fronteras se ha comunicado con la delegación de Educación de la Junta de Andalucía que aún no ha respondido.
España es el país con mayor cantidad de casos graves de bullying en el mundo según las estadísticas mundiales de BSF de 2025.
El día de hoy, antes de ingresar al IES de Benalmádena, los compañeros de la niña la recordaron con cariño y con pesar.
Ante la consulta de BSF, la dirección del IES de Benalmádena no quiso hacer declaraciones.
10 - Ava Little. 12
Georgia. Estados Unidos de América
La Organización Mundial Bullying Sin Fronteras confirma la muerte por suicidio de Ava Little, una niña de 12 años, en Byron, Georgia. Ava se quitó la vida por el bullying que sufría en la escuela, según su familia.
La menor murió el 25 de febrero en Georgia. Su muerte fue catalogada como un suicidio por el Médico Forense del condado Peach.
Ava Little sufrió bullying desde el quinto grado, afirma su familia en contacto con BSF.
La menor era estudiante de Byron Middle School, en el condado Peach en Georgia.
Ese distrito escolar tiene una política para lidiar con el bullying que incluye medidas disciplinarias como: suspensión dentro de la escuela, suspensión fuera de la escuela e incluso la expulsión.
Desde la muerte de Ava, se organizó una marcha en Byron el 2 de marzo en la que los participantes llevaban pancartas con los mensajes “Alto al bullying” y “La amabilidad importa”.
El funeral de la menor se llevó a cabo el viernes 6 de marzo a las 2:00 p.m. en The Assembly en Warner Robins.
