BUENOS AIRES, July 29, 2026 — JMH International Consortium of Journalists. Seven people were killed when a Bell 412EP helicopter operated by Jas Fly crashed in Ischigualasto Provincial Park, in Argentina’s San Juan province, about 1,800 kilometers (1,120 miles) from Buenos Aires.
Sources close to the investigation confirmed to JMH Consortium Director Dr. Javier Miglino that the aircraft had been contracted by the Federal Emergency Agency (AFE) to take part in a training course for emergency response brigades. After the exercises were completed, the helicopter was scheduled to travel to La Rioja province to assist in fighting a forest fire.

San Juan Governor Marcelo Orrego expressed his condolences in a message posted on the social media platform X. “With profound sorrow, we received news of the helicopter accident that occurred in our province, in which seven people tragically lost their lives,” the governor wrote.
Among those killed were pilot Matías Valenzuela, a member of Jas Fly who was widely recognized for his extensive experience flying this type of aircraft; AFE emergency responders Andrés Bosch and Rodrigo Aimetta; San Juan Civil Protection Director Carlos Heredia; provincial police deputy chief, Commissioner General Germán Videla; Fire Department Chief, Commissioner General Rubén Castro; and Deputy Fire Department Chief, Inspector Commissioner Jorge Carbajal. All were taking part in the training when the crash occurred.

Fuentes vinculadas con la investigación confirmaron al director del Consorcio JMH, Dr. Javier Miglino, que la aeronave había sido contratada por la Agencia Federal de Emergencias (AFE) para participar en un curso de capacitación destinado a brigadistas. Una vez finalizadas las prácticas, el helicóptero debía trasladarse a la provincia de La Rioja para colaborar en el combate de un incendio forestal.
El gobernador de San Juan, Marcelo Orrego, expresó sus condolencias mediante un mensaje publicado en la red social X. “Con profundo dolor recibimos la noticia del accidente de helicóptero ocurrido en nuestra provincia, en el que tristemente perdieron la vida siete personas”, escribió el mandatario.
Entre las víctimas se encontraban el piloto Matías Valenzuela, integrante de Jas Fly y reconocido por su amplia experiencia al mando de aeronaves de este tipo; los brigadistas de la Agencia Federal de Emergencias Andrés Bosch y Rodrigo Aimetta; el director de Protección Civil de San Juan, Carlos Heredia; el subjefe de la Policía provincial, comisario general Germán Videla; el jefe de Bomberos, comisario general Rubén Castro; y el segundo jefe de Bomberos, comisario inspector Jorge Carbajal. Todos participaban en la capacitación cuando ocurrió el siniestro.
