Las palabras del poeta argentino Almafuerte, escritas hace más de un siglo, siguen encontrando eco dentro y fuera de la Argentina.
More than a century after they were written, the words of Argentine poet Almafuerte continue to resonate both in Argentina and abroad. In Buenos Aires, Paris, London, New York, Tokyo, Shenzhen and Madrid, thousands of Argentines still embrace his verses as a symbol of perseverance and determination.
"Los argentinos no se dejan vencer, ni aun vencidos". Esa idea, inspirada en el célebre poema Piu Avanti, volvió a reflejarse este martes cuando la selección argentina enfrentó a Inglaterra ante una audiencia global estimada en más de 1.000 millones de personas.
El poema de Almafuerte continúa siendo una referencia cultural para generaciones de argentinos, al reivindicar la fortaleza, la resiliencia y la determinación frente a la adversidad.

More than a century after they were written, the words of Argentine poet Almafuerte continue to resonate both in Argentina and abroad. In Buenos Aires, Paris, London, New York, Tokyo, Shenzhen and Madrid, thousands of Argentines still embrace his verses as a symbol of perseverance and determination.
"Argentines do not surrender, even when defeated." That spirit, inspired by the celebrated poem Piu Avanti, was once again reflected on Tuesday as Argentina faced England before an estimated global audience of more than one billion viewers.
Almafuerte's poem remains a cultural landmark, celebrating resilience, courage and the determination to overcome adversity.

Do not give yourself up, even when defeated;
do not feel like a slave, even if enslaved;
though trembling with fear, think of yourself as brave,
and strike fiercely, even when badly wounded.
Have the persistence of the rusted nail
that, though old and worn, remains a nail;
not the cowardly boldness of the turkey
that lowers its feathers at the first sound.
Act like God, who never weeps;
or like Lucifer, who never prays;
or like the oak, whose greatness
needs water but never begs for it…

1世紀以上前にアルマフエルテが残した言葉は、今なおアルゼンチン国内だけでなく世界中で人々の心を打ち続けている。ブエノスアイレス、パリ、ロンドン、ニューヨーク、東京、深圳、マドリードなど、世界各地のアルゼンチン人は、その詩を不屈の精神の象徴として受け継いでいる。
「敗れても、決して屈するな。」――この精神は、名作詩 Piu Avanti に込められた思想そのものであり、この日、推定10億人以上が見守る中で行われたアルゼンチン対イングランドの一戦でも、その姿勢があらためて世界に示された。
アルマフエルテの詩は、逆境に立ち向かう勇気、忍耐、そして揺るぎない意志を讃える作品として、今日も多くの人々に読み継がれている。
