Colt Gray, 16, pleaded guilty to the shooting that took place on September 4, 2024, leaving four people dead and numerous others injured at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia.
In March, a jury found his father, Colin Gray, guilty of charges including second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter. His sentencing is scheduled for next week. Prosecutors stated that the father gave his son the assault rifle used to open fire at the school.
Teachers Richard “Ricky” Aspinwall, 39, and Cristina Irimie, 53, as well as students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo—both 14—died in the shooting. Another teacher and eight students were injured; seven of them suffered gunshot wounds.
The convicted teenager faces life imprisonment:
Barrow County Superior Court Judge Nicholas Primm questioned Gray to ensure he understood the consequences of his guilty plea and was entering it voluntarily. Gray replied, "Yes, Your Honor," each time.
Murder carries a mandatory minimum sentence of life imprisonment. The judge must decide whether Gray is eligible for parole after hearing victim impact statements, evidence, and closing arguments from both sides.
According to a psychologist, the perpetrator of the Georgia school shooting had a chaotic childhood and was obsessed with mass killings.
