Sources close to the California police confirmed to the Bullying Without Borders World Organization (BSF) that reality TV star Darrell Sheets died by suicide due to cyberbullying.
Detectives leading the investigation confirmed to BSF that, prior to the incident in which Darrell took his own life in Lake Havasu City, he had written a handwritten note and left it inside a black basket in a bathroom closet, near where his body was found. Police summarized the note's content as follows: "I couldn't take the harassment on Facebook anymore, fuck you [name omitted]"... and added that the handwriting appeared shaky.
Darrell couldn't sleep due to the cyberbullying:
The report also provides a clearer picture of Darrell's final night. His girlfriend told detectives that he was unable to sleep and got out of bed in the middle of the night; shortly after, she found him standing in the doorway of his office... telling him to "go back to bed" just before the gunshot that ended his life rang out.
Darrell was found dead at his Arizona home on April 22, after his girlfriend called 911 upon hearing a gunshot. The medical examiner later ruled his death a suicide.
His son, Brandon Sheets, broke his silence with an emotional tribute... describing Darrell as "the best father a son could wish for," before announcing that he would reopen his father's Arizona shop, *Show Me Your Junk*, to carry on the family business.
Cyberbullying is a monster that continues to kill in silence. Together with traditional bullying, it claims the lives of 200,000 children, adolescents, young adults, and adults like Darrell every year—people who simply do not know how to confront this killer.
