Durante la audiencia, el agente Brian Davis, de la Oficina de Investigación del Estado de Utah, leyó ante el jurado numerosos mensajes intercambiados entre Robinson y Twiggs. En uno de los mensajes, además, le pidió a Twiggs que "borrara la conversación" antes de manifestar su intención de entregarse a las autoridades.
Según los mensajes exhibidos en la sala, Robinson escribió: "Esperaba mantener esto en secreto hasta morir de viejo. Lamento haberte involucrado". Cuando Twiggs le preguntó directamente si él era el responsable del ataque, Robinson respondió: "Sí, fui yo. Lo siento".

Twiggs afirmó que decidió preguntarle personalmente si era cierto lo que le había confesado la noche anterior. "Dijo que sí, comenzó a llorar y expresó que ojalá no lo hubiera hecho", declaró en la entrevista reproducida ante el jurado.
El juez dispuso además que las conversaciones mantenidas entre Robinson y Twiggs en la plataforma Discord podrán ser examinadas durante la audiencia. No obstante, determinó que ese material únicamente podrá visualizarse dentro de la sala del tribunal y no podrá difundirse por medios electrónicos.

During the proceedings, Utah State Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Brian Davis read numerous text messages exchanged between Robinson and Twiggs. According to the evidence presented, Robinson discussed the location of the rifle allegedly used in the shooting and his efforts to retrieve it. In one message, he also instructed Twiggs to "delete this conversation" before indicating that he intended to surrender to authorities.
According to messages shown in court, Robinson wrote: "I hoped to keep this secret until I died of old age. I'm sorry I got you involved." When Twiggs asked whether he was responsible for the attack, Robinson allegedly replied: "Yes, it was me. I'm sorry."
Prosecutors also presented messages in which Twiggs asked Robinson why he carried out the shooting. Robinson allegedly answered that he was "tired of his hate," adding, "There are forms of hate that cannot be negotiated." He also allegedly said he had been planning the attack for "just over a week."
Jurors also watched a previously recorded interview with Twiggs. In that interview, he said he saw Robinson the day after the shooting at Utah Valley University and described him as pacing around the apartment they shared.
Twiggs testified that he confronted Robinson in person about what he had admitted the previous night. "He said yes, started crying a little, and said he wished he hadn't done it," Twiggs told investigators in the recorded interview played for the jury.
The judge also ruled that messages exchanged between Robinson and Twiggs on the Discord platform may be reviewed during the proceedings. However, the material may only be displayed inside the courtroom and is not authorized for electronic distribution.
