NEW YORK, July 11 — JMH International Consortium of Journalists — The football world is mourning the death of South African midfielder Jayden Adams, who has died at the age of 25 after representing his country at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The cause of death has not been disclosed. Adams had been playing for Mamelodi Sundowns since January 2025, following his rise as one of South Africa's most promising midfielders.
His passing prompted an outpouring of tributes across the football community. The South African Football Players Union released a statement honoring his memory.
"Death has robbed our nation and the world of an extraordinary talent. Jayden Adams will always be remembered for his humility, his exceptional talent, and the joy he brought to the beautiful game. Rest in peace."

He also featured for 61 minutes in South Africa's opening match against Mexico and made a 10-minute appearance against South Korea, displaying remarkable professionalism during an emotionally difficult period.
His first professional club, Stellenbosch FC, also paid tribute.
"Jayden leaves behind a lasting legacy and an enduring impact on South African football. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten."
The death of the young midfielder is a significant loss for South African football and for a generation that viewed Adams as one of the country's brightest talents.
