The result was 1-0. The narrative, however, was far more exaggerated.
Argentina lost a final. They did not lose their dignity or their memory. A second world title was just one goal away. It hurt—as all final losses do. But football didn't end when the match did. That was when another contest began: the battle over the narrative.

Mientras en Buenos Aires la derrota se vivía con la lógica frustración de perder una final —y nada más que eso—, parte de la prensa española eligió contar otra historia: una ciudad devastada, un país sumido en la desesperación y un supuesto Maracanazo que jamás existió. El resultado fue 1-0. El relato, bastante más abultado.
Argentina perdió una final. No perdió la dignidad ni la memoria. El bicampeonato mundial quedó a un gol de distancia. Dolió. Como duelen todas las finales. Pero el fútbol no terminó cuando terminó el partido. Ahí comenzó otra disputa: la del relato.
Estas son diez cuestiones verificables que la final dejó sobre la mesa.
