Blogger Milo Yiannopoulos was detained by ICE and sent to a detention facility in Louisiana.
Yiannopoulos is known as a controversial figure within conservatism. Among other statements and public appearances, he attracted considerable attention after embarking on a bus tour of universities across the United States. He said the tour sought to promote freedom of speech and bring his perspective to universities where, in his view, liberal ideas could dominate the debate.
His disparaging comments about Muslims, transgender people and other groups sparked outrage. Many people argued that his racist and hateful language was intended to inflame tensions on university campuses and that institutions of higher education should not provide him with a platform.
