GENEVA, August 8, 2021 — World Bullying Without Borders Organization

2021 World Bullying Statistics

Prepared by the Global Observatory for Bullying and Cyberbullying of Bullying Without Borders, with the participation of professionals from 140 countries.

The World Bullying Without Borders Organization warns that bullying and cyberbullying constitute a serious international problem and maintains that both phenomena are linked to more than 200,000 deaths each year, either through homicide or suicide.

“Bullying and cyberbullying are direct causes of more than 200,000 deaths each year, whether through homicide or suicide. In other words, they claim the lives of hundreds of thousands of children and young people around the world. These silent killers feed on three poisons: loneliness, sadness and fear. Social networks are the great ally of these unpunished killers. For this reason, it is necessary to create a force for good that tells every child, adolescent and young person in the world that they are not alone. Bullying Without Borders will be that courageous friend who, freely and unconditionally, will always stand by their side and support them.”

Bullying Without Borders (BSF)

According to the international NGO Bullying Without Borders study covering the Americas, Europe, Asia, Oceania and Africa, cases of bullying and cyberbullying continue to increase. The study states that six out of every ten children experience some form of bullying or cyberbullying every day.

Why is bullying lethal?

According to Bullying Without Borders, the phenomenon is fueled by three main factors: loneliness, sadness and fear.

The organization states that on May 2, 2013, the date on which World Day Against Bullying was created, Dr. Javier Miglino, a jurist and expert in human rights and child protection, identified these three factors as central elements in understanding the seriousness of the phenomenon.

The organization also maintains that, years later, international organizations incorporated bullying as a subject of study and prevention in educational systems in numerous countries.

Today it is part of global education

According to the organization, bullying is fueled by three factors:

Loneliness.
Sadness.
Fear.

First worldwide study on bullying

Bullying Without Borders maintains that school bullying constitutes a silent threat that continues to claim victims while reports are being prepared on its scope.

The organization states that, since 2016, Nobel Peace Prize laureates Desmond Tutu, John Hume and Liu Xiaobo asked Dr. Javier Miglino, founder of Bullying Without Borders, to prepare a worldwide report on bullying.

According to the organization, the objective was to gather information with academic backing and clear standards of objectivity so that universities, governments, educational institutions and media organizations could have a global assessment of bullying, country by country.

According to Bullying Without Borders, beginning in January 2021, approximately 50,000 of its collaborators across five continents began collecting information for the study. The organization says that university professors and students from different academic institutions also participated.

According to the report, the methodology included information provided by hospitals that treated serious cases of bullying, Ministries and Departments of Education, criminal case files, testimony from doctors and nurses, teachers and school administrators, relatives of victims, and people who had directly experienced bullying.

Using this information, Bullying Without Borders prepared its First World Report on Bullying, which it presented as a freely accessible study.

200,000 annual deaths, according to Bullying Without Borders

The organization maintains that bullying and cyberbullying cause approximately 200,000 deaths worldwide each year, primarily among children, adolescents and young people.

The organization again identifies loneliness, sadness and fear as central factors and maintains that prevention, support and early intervention are essential to avoid serious consequences.

“This report cost us a great deal, but if we succeed in ensuring that one person is no longer afraid or sad and knows that they are not alone, it will have been worth the effort.”

Bullying Sin Fronteras (BSF)

(Bullying Without Borders)

Bullying Without Borders(BSF)

Bullying Without Borders

Bullying Without Borders

Bullying Without Borders

Bullying Without Borders
