Artificial Intelligence: Is It Harming Children’s Mental Health?

GENEVA — September 30 — World Organization Bullying Whiout Borders

Artificial intelligence is advancing at a pace that is beginning to concern even those who have been involved in its development. One of the main areas of concern directly affects children and adolescents: the impact of these technologies on their psychological, social and emotional development.

A former Google safety executive recently warned that the artificial intelligence industry could be repeating mistakes made during the expansion of social media, and that the consequences for minors could be even greater.

The warning is particularly relevant at a time when artificial intelligence systems have already become part of the daily lives of millions of young people.

The American Psychological Association reported in September 2026 that children and adolescents are using artificial intelligence tools for entertainment, companionship and schoolwork.

The organization warns that research into the effects of AI on young people is still at an early stage, but psychologists are studying whether certain uses could interfere with healthy cognitive, social and emotional development.
