Una chica de 17 años se suicidó en una residencia estatal en la región de Ipswich, Queensland, Australia, por motivos de ciberacoso. La chica consumía drogas y por ese motivo estaba alojada en ese tipo de albergue.
La ministra de Seguridad Infantil de Queensland, Ann Leahy, expresó a Bullying Sin Fronteras su pesar por el fallecimiento y solicitó al Departamento de Seguridad Infantil una investigación completa sobre las circunstancias del caso.
El caso adquirió especial relevancia debido a los antecedentes de vulnerabilidad que rodean a menores alojados en residencias estatales y a las preguntas sobre la continuidad de sus cuidados, la evaluación de riesgos y la coordinación entre los servicios responsables.

BRISBANE, September 2026 — World Organization Bullying Without Borders
A 17-year-old girl died by suicide at a state-run residential facility in the Ipswich region of Queensland, Australia, in connection with cyberbullying. The girl used drugs and, for that reason, was staying in this type of residential facility.
Queensland Minister for Child Safety Ann Leahy expressed her condolences to Bullying Without Borders over the girl's death and requested that the Department of Child Safety conduct a full investigation into the circumstances of the case.
The case has taken on particular significance because of the vulnerabilities surrounding children placed in state-run residential facilities, as well as questions regarding continuity of care, risk assessment and coordination among the services responsible for their welfare.
According to the 2024-2025 report of the Child Death Review Board, 57 of the 427 children who died during that period had been in contact with child protection services during the 12 months preceding their deaths. Ten of them were in state care at the time of their deaths.
