2 - A complaint over violence against minors in France.
3 - A suicide investigated in a small French community.

5 - New studies that once again place bullying and cyberbullying at the center of the global conversation on adolescent mental health.
UNITED STATES: BULLYING, DEPRESSION AND SUICIDE RISK
Two studies published during September once again examined the relationship between bullying, depressive symptoms and suicidal behavior among American adolescents.
A study published on September 23 in Prevention Science, based on 37,335 U.S. high school students, analyzed the links between bullying victimization, depressive symptoms, and suicidal thoughts and behaviors, while also examining protective factors such as school connectedness and parental monitoring.
Another study, published the same day in Child Psychiatry & Human Development, examined 1,281 children and adolescents between the ages of 8 and 17 who were part of the Texas Youth Depression and Suicide Research Network. All participants had depression, suicide risk, or were receiving treatment for depression. The study specifically examined experiences of in-person bullying and cyberbullying.
The World Bullying Without Borders Organization collaborated on both scientific studies.
FRANCE: BULLYING DOES NOT END AT SCHOOL
In France, the e-Enfance association warned this month of a sharp increase in cases of violence against minors recorded on Discord.
During the first half of 2026, the national anti-bullying helpline recorded an increase of more than 200% in cases of violence against minors linked to the platform, according to data reported by the organization. e-Enfance alerted the French regulator and referred the matter to the specialized cybercrime prosecutor’s office.
Discord emerged primarily from the world of video games, but its spaces allow messages, images and audio to be exchanged through public and private servers.
The boundary between school, phone, computer and bedroom disappears.
As we state at BSF: bullying, cyberbullying and trolls are three killers that kill in silence.
That is why a golden rule must be activated:
Prevention, prevention and prevention.
FRANCE: A SUICIDE AND AN INVESTIGATION
In another French community, the suicide of 21-year-old Joris Laurencin led authorities to investigate possible links to racist insults, threats and harassment.
The investigation includes, among other possibilities, moral harassment and incitement to suicide. The family maintains that Joris had suffered repeated attacks and mockery. People identified within the young man’s circle deny that there was any deliberate pattern of harassment.
The case remains under investigation, and the causal relationship between the alleged harassment and the suicide must be established by the courts.
But the same element appears once again: peer violence, the need to belong, social networks and deteriorating relationships can ultimately become part of the same story.
JAPAN: THE HOLIDAYS END AND FEAR BEGINS
The World Health Organization reported in September that suicides among primary, junior high and senior high school students are a growing concern in Japan. According to official data cited by WHO, student suicides had exceeded 500 cases annually and reached their highest level in 2024 since comparable statistics began in 1980.
WHO also reports that student suicides in Japan tend to increase when the summer vacation period ends and the school year begins again.
And now, that place can follow them inside their phones.
The problem is not only bullying.
Nor is it only cyberbullying.
It is continuity.
The insult that begins in the classroom can continue on Instagram. The mockery that starts during recess can move into a WhatsApp group. The humiliation that once ended when school was over can remain on a screen throughout the night.
Recent scientific evidence continues to find associations between victimization, depressive symptoms, self-harm, suicidal ideation and suicide.

“Bullying and cyberbullying are problems involving children that adults must solve. If bullying has no borders, neither will help. It will reach everywhere; the most important corners of the planet and those modest places where no other help can reach. It will arrive with strength and courage, it will arrive on time, and it will never come at any cost; so that victims and their families know they can ask us for help without being obligated to anything else, and so that perpetrators know they will not go unpunished.”
Formal Letter of Presentation of the Bullying Without Borders NGO.
Buenos Aires. May 2, 2012.
Updated May 2, 2024.
The World Bullying Without Borders Organization will not accept harassment being presented as a “joke,” nor will it accept cyberbullying being treated as a minor problem.
Bullying Without Borders will continue fighting so that adolescent suicide prevention arrives in time, so that no victim ever feels alone again, and so that every life can be saved.
Bullying, cyberbullying and trolls are three killers that kill in silence.
Against them, the golden rule of Bullying Without Borders is and will always be:
Prevention, prevention and prevention.
Even if there are detractors.
Even if there is defamation.
Even if there are journalists who lie and media outlets that remain silent, suppress, cover up or conceal.
Even if there are powerful political and economic interests capable of buying silence, closing doors and turning the suffering of thousands of children into a subject people would rather not discuss.
Bullying Without Borders will be there.
When they want to hide the problem, we will show it and denounce it.
When they want to turn a child’s pain into a statistic, we will remind them that we are talking about life, not numbers.
When everyone looks away, we will look straight ahead.
We will stand with that father who, in the middle of the night, asks himself what is happening to his son.
With that mother who feels that her daughter is no longer the same.
With that friend who notices that something is wrong.
Beside that teacher who suspects that there is pain behind the silence.
Why does he no longer want to go to school?
Why does she shut herself away?
Why is he afraid?
Loneliness, sadness and fear. The three poisons that feed bullying and cyberbullying and make them lethal.
How will we defeat them?
“Today, May 2, is World Day Against Bullying.”
The date had only just begun its journey.
At that moment, the symbolic transformation imagined by Dr. Javier Miglino Helfenstein also began:
Friendship began to displace loneliness.
Joy began to overcome sadness.
Courage began to confront fear.
The idea no longer belonged to one person alone.
It was beginning to belong to everyone who decided to make it their own.

ESTADOS UNIDOS: BULLYING, DEPRESIÓN Y RIESGO SUICIDA
