MADRID y BUENOS AIRES, Septiembre 2 - ONG Defendamos Buenos Aires
Unas 100 mil personas se manifestaron en toda España con la consigna: “DEFENDAMOS CEUTA”.
Around 100,000 people took to the streets across Spain under the slogan: “DEFEND CEUTA.”
¿Pero cómo se unieron la mítica Capital de la República Argentina con la valiente Ciudad de Ceuta?
Así comenzó la historia.
BUENOS AIRES, Agosto 27 - ONG Defendamos Buenos Aires - ONG Defendamos Argentina.
Hoy, 27 de agosto, llegaron cientos de correos desde Ceuta, España. Una ciudad que atraviesa desde hace casi un mes una situación dramática tras la llegada masiva de personas desde Marruecos y que hoy vive con temor, mientras la convivencia se deteriora en un clima social cada vez más enrarecido.
La gente de Ceuta me escribe:
—Doctor, ayúdenos. Sentimos que la integridad territorial de España ha sido vulnerada y nadie quiere ayudarnos. ¿Cuánto vale que Defendamos Buenos Aires y Defendamos Argentina nos cedan su consigna para crear Defendamos Ceuta?
La respuesta, una vez más, será lacónica:
Nada.
No se vende una idea que nació para defender a la gente.
“Hace 20 años creábamos una genialidad profundamente argentina: ‘Defendamos Buenos Aires’, una ONG nacida de la gente y para la gente de Buenos Aires, concebida para defender aquello que nos pertenece a todos: el patrimonio histórico, la tranquilidad, la seguridad y la identidad de nuestra Ciudad.
Muchos periodistas, políticos e impresentables de toda pelambre se burlaron entonces:
—¿Buenos Aires necesita que la defiendan? ¿De quiénes?
Mi respuesta fue breve, casi lacónica:
—De todos ustedes.
Pasaron 20 años.
Y aquella idea que algunos pretendieron ridiculizar se transformó en una bandera —una bandera sin fronteras políticas— que inspiró nuevos ‘Defendamos’: la universidad pública, la salud, la educación, los glaciares, Córdoba, Tierra del Fuego, Rosario, La Plata y tantos otros lugares y causas que merecían una voz que dijera, sin miedo: esto también hay que defenderlo.
Hace 10 años dimos un paso más y creamos ‘Defendamos la República Argentina’, porque entendimos que nuestro abrazo protector debía ser completo, nacional y federal.
Hasta Coca-Cola tomó prestado nuestro ‘Defendamos’ para su promoción durante el Mundial 2026. Tal vez sea una anécdota. Tal vez sea también la prueba de que una idea sencilla, cuando nace de una convicción verdadera, puede llegar mucho más lejos de lo que imaginamos.

Por eso, Defendamos Buenos Aires y Defendamos la República Argentina ceden, sin costo alguno, su consigna para que Defendamos Ceuta pueda nacer de inmediato.
Porque las ideas que pertenecen a la gente no se guardan en una caja fuerte. Se entregan. Se multiplican. Se convierten en acción.
Creé Defendamos Buenos Aires inspirado en aquellos días gloriosos de 1806 y 1807, cuando las invasiones inglesas llegaron a nuestra Ciudad y los porteños se levantaron para defenderla.
En ambas ocasiones vencimos.
Como en el fútbol.
Como tantas veces ocurre cuando un pueblo comprende que ya no está defendiendo solamente calles, edificios o fronteras, sino algo mucho más grande: su propia identidad.
Gracias a aquellos hombres y mujeres valientes del siglo XIX, Buenos Aires continuó siendo Buenos Aires.
Hoy, más de dos siglos después, la historia vuelve a plantearnos el mismo desafío, con otros nombres y en otros escenarios.
Que los valientes del siglo XXI tengan la fuerza, el coraje y la determinación necesarios para conseguir que Ceuta siga siendo Ceuta.
Porque una ciudad puede ser un territorio.
Pero también puede ser una historia.
Una identidad.
Un hogar.
Y cuando llega el momento de defenderla, siempre debe existir alguien dispuesto a decir: DEFENDAMOS.

But how did the legendary Capital of the Argentine Republic become connected with the brave City of Ceuta?
This is how the story began.
BUENOS AIRES, August 27 — Defendamos Buenos Aires NGO — Defendamos Argentina NGO.
Today, August 27, hundreds of emails arrived from Ceuta, Spain. It is a city that has been going through a dramatic situation for almost a month following the massive arrival of people from Morocco and that is now living in fear, while coexistence deteriorates amid an increasingly troubled social climate.
The people of Ceuta write to me:
—Doctor, help us. We feel that Spain’s territorial integrity has been violated, and no one wants to help us. How much would it cost for Defendamos Buenos Aires and Defendamos Argentina to lend us their slogan so that we can create Defendamos Ceuta?
The answer, once again, will be laconic:
Nothing.
An idea that was born to defend people is not for sale.
“Twenty years ago, we created a deeply Argentine stroke of genius: ‘Defendamos Buenos Aires,’ an NGO born from the people and for the people of Buenos Aires, created to defend what belongs to all of us: the city’s historical heritage, peace, security and identity.
Many journalists, politicians and all manner of shameless critics mocked us at the time:
—Does Buenos Aires need to be defended? From whom?
My answer was brief, almost laconic:
—From all of you.
Twenty years passed.
And that idea that some had tried to ridicule became a banner —a banner without political borders— that inspired new ‘Defendamos’ initiatives: the public university, healthcare, education, glaciers, Córdoba, Tierra del Fuego, Rosario, La Plata and so many other places and causes that deserved a voice willing to say, without fear: this, too, must be defended.
Ten years ago, we took another step and created ‘Defendamos la República Argentina’ —‘Let Us Defend the Argentine Republic’— because we understood that our protective embrace had to be complete, national and federal.
Even Coca-Cola borrowed our ‘Defendamos’ for its promotion during the 2026 World Cup. Perhaps it is merely an anecdote. Perhaps it is also proof that a simple idea, when born from genuine conviction, can go much farther than we imagine.

Therefore, Defendamos Buenos Aires and Defendamos la República Argentina are granting their slogan, completely free of charge, so that Defendamos Ceuta can be created immediately.
Because ideas that belong to the people are not kept in a safe. They are given away. They multiply. They become action.
I created Defendamos Buenos Aires inspired by those glorious days of 1806 and 1807, when the British invasions reached our City and the people of Buenos Aires rose up to defend it.
On both occasions, we won.
Just as in football.
As so often happens when a people understands that it is no longer defending merely streets, buildings or borders, but something much greater: its own identity.
Thanks to those brave men and women of the 19th century, Buenos Aires continued to be Buenos Aires.
Today, more than two centuries later, history once again presents us with the same challenge, under different names and in different settings.
May the brave people of the 21st century have the strength, courage and determination necessary to ensure that Ceuta remains Ceuta.
Because a city can be a territory.
But it can also be a history.
An identity.
A home.
And when the time comes to defend it, there must always be someone willing to say: DEFEND.

では、アルゼンチン共和国の伝説的な首都ブエノスアイレスと、勇敢な都市セウタは、どのようにして結びついたのでしょうか。
その物語は、こうして始まりました。

本日8月27日、スペインのセウタから数百通のメールが届きました。
セウタでは、モロッコから大勢の人々が到着したことを受け、約1か月にわたって深刻な状況が続いています。そして現在、人々は不安の中で暮らし、社会的な緊張がますます高まるなか、地域社会の共存も悪化しています。
セウタの人々から、私はこう書かれたメールを受け取りました。
—先生、私たちを助けてください。スペインの領土的一体性が侵害されたと感じています。しかし、誰も私たちを助けようとしてくれません。「Defendamos Buenos Aires」と「Defendamos Argentina」のスローガンを私たちに譲り、「Defendamos Ceuta」を立ち上げるためには、いくらかかるのでしょうか？
その答えは、今回も簡潔なものでした。
何もありません。
人々を守るために生まれた理念を売ることはできません。
「20年前、私たちは非常にアルゼンチンらしい素晴らしい発想、『Defendamos Buenos Aires（ブエノスアイレスを守ろう）』を立ち上げました。
それはブエノスアイレスの人々によって生まれ、ブエノスアイレスの人々のために存在するNGOでした。
私たち全員に属するもの、すなわち歴史的遺産、平穏、安全、そして私たちの都市のアイデンティティを守るために設立されたのです。
当時、多くのジャーナリスト、政治家、そしてあらゆる種類の無責任な人々が私たちを笑いました。
—ブエノスアイレスに守る必要があるのか？ 誰から守るというのか？
私の答えは短く、ほとんど一言でした。
—あなたたち全員からです。
20年が過ぎました。

そして、新たな「Defendamos」を生み出すきっかけとなりました。公立大学、医療、教育、氷河、コルドバ、ティエラ・デル・フエゴ、ロサリオ、ラ・プラタ、そして、守るべき価値があり、恐れることなく『これもまた守らなければならない』と言う声を必要としていた、数多くの場所や大義です。
10年前、私たちはさらに一歩進み、『Defendamos la República Argentina（アルゼンチン共和国を守ろう）』を創設しました。
私たちの守るべき対象は、完全かつ全国的で、連邦全体を包み込むものでなければならないと理解したからです。

当時、イギリス軍による侵攻が私たちの都市に及び、ブエノスアイレスの人々は街を守るために立ち上がりました。
2度とも、私たちは勝利しました。
サッカーと同じです。
人々が、もはや単なる道路や建物、国境を守っているのではなく、それよりはるかに大きなもの、すなわち自分たち自身のアイデンティティを守っているのだと理解したとき、しばしば起こることです。
19世紀のあの勇敢な男女のおかげで、ブエノスアイレスはブエノスアイレスであり続けました。
そして今、2世紀以上の時を経て、歴史は再び私たちに同じ挑戦を突きつけています。
ただし、名前も舞台も異なります。
21世紀の勇敢な人々が、セウタがこれからもセウタであり続けるために必要な強さ、勇気、そして決意を持つことを願います。
なぜなら、一つの都市は単なる領土であるかもしれません。
しかし、それは同時に一つの歴史でもあります。
一つのアイデンティティでもあります。
一つの故郷でもあります。
そして、それを守る時が来たなら、必ず誰かがこう言うべきなのです。
