BUENOS AIRES, September 3 — The World Bullying Without Borders Organization confirmed the death of Karla Robles, a 27-year-old woman from Tucumán, Argentina, in a case being investigated by prosecutors involving alleged psychological abuse, harassment and online bullying.
Robles aspired to become an influencer and hoped to work with cosmetics brands through content posted on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube.
According to information gathered by investigators, Robles was in a relationship with Ricardo Zerda, a partner she had described as being part of a toxic relationship. She had said that she was constantly required to justify her actions and that Zerda had made intimidating and abusive remarks toward her.
The Specialized Homicide Unit I of the Public Prosecutor’s Office told JMH that it had detained Zerda in recent hours at Hospital Obarrio. He is being investigated for alleged responsibility in encouraging Robles’ suicide.
Authorities said procedural measures remain under way, including forensic examinations of seized mobile phones and analysis of social-media accounts and communications linked to the case.
The case has renewed attention on the effects of online harassment and on the need to address situations involving violence and mental-health crises that can be aggravated by intense public exposure.
“Days ago, a terrible crime occurred in Times Square, New York, leaving two women dead: Erin Piacenti, a 32-year-old Bank of America vice president, and Pamela Cisneros, the attacker, who died after being shot by two police officers. Cisneros, a 49-year-old Queens resident, had no criminal record but had a relatively short yet substantial mental-health history that began during the 2020 pandemic. Then came the case of Luca and Valentina in Rome, who decided to take their own lives along with their five-year-old daughter, Bianca, also causing the death of their dog, Teo. We began by discussing the case of Karla Robles in Argentina. Around the world we are witnessing incidents of this kind. The silent but devastating mental-health epidemic, arising from personal, economic and social circumstances and influenced by social media, is taking lives everywhere,” said Dr. Javier Miglino Helfenstein, an expert in Human Rights and Child Protection and World Director of Bullying Without Borders.

Robles aspiraba a convertirse en influencer y buscaba trabajar con marcas de cosméticos mediante contenidos publicados en TikTok, Instagram y YouTube.
Según los antecedentes incorporados a la investigación, Robles mantenía una relación de pareja con Ricardo Zerda, en un vínculo que ella misma había descrito como tóxico. La joven había manifestado que debía justificar permanentemente sus actos y que había recibido expresiones intimidatorias y de maltrato por parte de Zerda.
La Unidad Especializada de Homicidios I del Ministerio Público Fiscal (MPF) informó a JMH que en las últimas horas concretó la detención de Zerda en el Hospital Obarrio. El hombre es investigado por su presunta responsabilidad en la instigación del suicidio de Robles.
Las autoridades señalaron que continúan las medidas procesales, incluidas las pericias sobre los teléfonos celulares secuestrados y el análisis de las cuentas y comunicaciones vinculadas con las redes sociales.
El caso ha vuelto a poner el foco sobre los efectos del acoso digital y sobre la necesidad de abordar las situaciones de violencia y crisis de salud mental que pueden agravarse en entornos de fuerte exposición pública.
