Uber has announced a reduction of approximately 10% of its workforce, equivalent to around 3,300 jobs. The implementation of AI in office tasks, ranging from accounting to human resources, has taken a toll on thousands of workers.
“This was not a decision we took lightly, as it will have a real impact on our colleagues and friends who have worked hard for Uber. It is important to clarify that these changes concern our organization and priorities, not anyone’s contributions to Uber, which we will always value,” the company said in an internal statement from Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, obtained by the International Consortium of JMH Journalists.
Uber’s decision:
Job cuts resulting from the implementation of artificial intelligence are part of a change taking place at thousands of companies around the world. Yesterday, the JMH Consortium reported that 62% of workers in Germany, across industries ranging from automotive to pharmaceuticals, fear losing their jobs because of the implementation of AI.
Khosrowshahi said that structures that made sense when the businesses were smaller are no longer suitable for the multinational’s current scale.
“The changes we are making today are designed to do two things: make Uber simpler and faster, and create more capacity to invest in our future,” the executive said.

“Esta no fue una decisión que tomamos a la ligera, ya que tendrá un impacto real en nuestros compañeros y amigos que han trabajado arduamente para Uber. Es importante aclarar que estos cambios se refieren a nuestra organización y prioridades, no a las contribuciones de nadie a Uber, las cuales siempre valoraremos”, ha indicado la empresa en un comunicado interno del director ejecutivo de Uber, Dara Khosrowshahi, al que accedió el Consorcio Internacional de Periodistas JMH.

El recorte de empleos mediante la implementación de la inteligencia artificial es un cambio que se está produciendo en miles de empresas en todo el mundo.
