A 21-year-old college student died after a suspected fentanyl overdose in Manhattan, in a case involving allegations of sexual assault and a disturbing delay in seeking emergency assistance.

According to federal prosecutors, Moises Freire, 19, allegedly supplied a substance presented as cocaine that contained fentanyl. Two young women reportedly lost consciousness after consuming it. One later died, while the other survived after receiving emergency medical treatment.

Prosecutors allege that Freire sexually assaulted one of the unconscious women and waited approximately 45 minutes before seeking help. He is also accused of taking and sharing photographs of the incapacitated women rather than immediately contacting emergency services.

The case has raised serious concerns about sexual violence, dangerous drug distribution, consent and the responsibility to protect people in life-threatening situations.

BSF: SILENCE AND INDIFFERENCE MUST NEVER REPLACE HUMANITY

The World Organization Bullying Without Borders emphasizes that every young person deserves dignity, safety and protection from abuse. An unconscious person cannot consent to sexual activity, and suspected overdoses require immediate medical attention.

Schools, universities and communities must strengthen prevention, educate young people about consent, and ensure that emergencies are met with swift and responsible action.
