THOMAS MARKLE: ARREST, FEDERAL CHARGES AND JUDICIAL ACTION IN AN INVESTIGATION INTO CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE MATERIAL

Bullying Sin Fronteras: Child Protection, a founding principle since May 2, 2013.

WASHINGTON, LOS ANGELES, TAMPA, MANILA, GENEVA, BUENOS AIRES. NOVEMBER 6, 2026.

Bullying Sin Fronteras was founded on May 2, 2013. From its very first day, it established a guiding principle that allows no exceptions, privileges or compromises: Child Protection.

It was never a temporary slogan or a statement created to accompany a news story. It was — and remains — the foundation of our institutional mission. Children must always be protected: at home, at school, within institutions, in their communities and in the digital world.

That is why, when an international investigation places an adult under scrutiny for allegedly possessing child sexual abuse material, BSF's position is unequivocal: the focus of the story must not be fame, family connections or media attention. The focus must be children, their rights, their dignity and the obligation of governments to protect them.

The Director of Bullying Sin Fronteras, Dr. Javier Miglino Helfenstein, is an expert in Human Rights and Child Protection who has devoted his professional work to this issue. Through his experience and the organization's specialized work, he is among the professionals who have made the protection of children a central field of study and action.

Thomas Wayne Markle arrested in Florida

The United States Department of Justice confirmed on Friday, November 6, the arrest of Thomas Wayne Markle, 82, in Florida. Federal authorities reported that he had been charged, through a criminal complaint, with one count of possessing child sexual abuse material.

According to the official statement, investigators allege that Markle had retained material of this nature in two storage units in the Los Angeles area, which had been rented for nearly two decades.

During searches, FBI agents seized approximately 78 items, including slides, photographic negatives and books that allegedly contained suspected material. The investigation is ongoing.

The Department of Justice stated that some of the images examined by investigators apparently showed an adult man, identified by a witness as Markle, with prepubescent girls. Out of respect for the potential victims, BSF will neither reproduce nor graphically describe that material.

Judicial action: a central element of the case

The investigation has already resulted in documented judicial proceedings.

The federal criminal complaint against Thomas Wayne Markle was filed on November 5, 2026, before the United States District Court for the Central District of California. The case is numbered 2:26-mj-06499-DUTY.

The document was sworn before United States Magistrate Judge Rozella A. Oliver. An FBI special agent's affidavit sets out the evidence that, according to investigators, established probable cause to bring the charge and seek an arrest warrant.

The case file also records federal search warrants for the two storage units under investigation, authorized by magistrate judges.

On November 6, the Department of Justice announced that Markle had been arrested and was expected to make his initial appearance before a federal court in Tampa, Florida.

An investigation that crosses borders

The case has an international dimension. Initial reports concerning the possible existence of child sexual abuse material emerged in connection with belongings that were reportedly located in the Philippines. The United States investigation subsequently expanded to two storage units in California.

The FBI reported working with its international offices and liaison personnel, including those assigned to Mexico, Manila and the Marshall Islands.

Cooperation between countries is essential in cases involving potential victims, devices, files and individuals located in different jurisdictions. Evidence must be preserved, examined by specialists and presented before courts in accordance with due process and legal safeguards.

The protection of children cannot stop at national borders.

The priority: the potential victims

In investigations of this nature, the first public responsibility is to ensure that children who may have been affected are not exposed again. Their identities, images, personal histories and any information that could identify them must remain protected.

Child sexual abuse material is not ordinary content, nor is it a form of entertainment. It represents exploitation and a grave violation of human rights. Its circulation and reproduction prolong the harm.

The response must include professional investigation, judicial cooperation, victim protection, specialized support and prevention.

For Bullying Sin Fronteras, the protection of children cannot stop at a border

Since May 2, 2013, Bullying Sin Fronteras has maintained that Child Protection must be a universal principle, above the public profile, economic power, social position or family connections of anyone under investigation.

No family name can stand above a child's rights.

No celebrity status should turn a criminal investigation into a spectacle that pushes potential victims out of the picture.

And no institution should look the other way when indications of child exploitation emerge.

Children should never have to prove that they deserve protection.

For a childhood protected. In every country. Without exceptions.
