El profesor Jason Arday de la Universidad de Cambridge, quien había renunciado la semana pasada en medio de un escándalo por acusaciones de plagio sobre su trayectoria académica, sobre su rendimiento en eventos deportivos y sobre la promoción de donaciones para entidades benéficas, fue hallado muerto en su casa de Battersea, al sur de Londres. “El costo personal se volvió demasiado alto”
Al anunciar su renuncia, Jason dijo que ser profesor en Cambridge había sido “el mayor privilegio profesional” de su vida, pero aseguró que el nivel de exposición había llegado a un punto insostenible.
“Llega un momento en que el costo personal se vuelve demasiado elevado”, sostuvo en una carta a la que tuvo acceso la Organización Mundial Bullying Sin Fronteras.
Afirmó que su decisión no implicaba aceptar las acusaciones ni renunciar a los valores que lo habían llevado hasta Cambridge.
“En las últimas semanas, Jason había sido atacado en las redes sociales por diversos motivos: episodios raciales, acusaciones de plagio, supuestamente detectadas por PlagScan y otros sistemas, falsedad en logros deportivos personales y falsedad en la obtención de donaciones para entidades. Todas las acusaciones eran solo eso: acusaciones. No había pruebas y no las hay todavía.
Ese tipo de acoso encuadra perfectamente en una situación de ciberbullying o ciberacoso según la definición universal de ciberbullying que creamos en 2014”, dijo el Dr. Javier Miglino, experto en Derechos Humanos y Protección de la Niñez y Director Mundial de Bullying Sin Fronteras.

Professor Jason Arday of the University of Cambridge, who resigned last week amid a scandal involving allegations of plagiarism concerning his academic record, his performance in sporting events and the promotion of donations for charitable organizations, was found dead at his home in Battersea, south London. He was 41.
All of these allegations were merely allegations. At the time of writing this report, there is not a single piece of evidence verifying that Jason had plagiarized other authors in writing his essays or that he had lied about his academic, sporting or charitable achievements.
“For the time being, his death is being treated as unexpected, but it is not believed to be suspicious. The case is being investigated by officers from the Metropolitan Police’s South Central Command Unit. A report will be prepared for the coroner,” police told the International Consortium of JMH Journalists.
Arday gained international prominence in 2023, when he became the youngest Black professor in Cambridge’s history. His appointment was presented at the time as a landmark achievement for one of the United Kingdom’s oldest and most prestigious academic institutions.
“The personal cost became too high”
When announcing his resignation, Jason said that being a professor at Cambridge had been “the greatest professional privilege” of his life, but said the level of exposure had reached an unsustainable point.
“There comes a time when the personal cost becomes too high,” he said in a letter obtained by the World Bullying Without Borders Organization.
He said his decision did not mean accepting the allegations or abandoning the values that had led him to Cambridge.
“In recent weeks, Jason had been attacked on social media for various reasons: racial incidents, allegations of plagiarism allegedly detected by PlagScan and other systems, false claims regarding personal sporting achievements and false claims regarding the securing of donations for charitable organizations. All of the allegations were just that: allegations. There was no evidence, and there still is none.
That type of harassment fits perfectly into a situation of cyberbullying or cyber harassment according to the universal definition of cyberbullying that we created in 2014,” said Dr. Javier Miglino, an expert in Human Rights and Child Protection and World Director of Bullying Without Borders.
