GENEVA, October 6 — WORLD ORGANIZATION BULLYING WITHOUT BORDERS
THE ANTI-BULLYING POEM THAT CROSSED CLASSROOMS AROUND THE WORLD
There are poems that are read.
And there are poems that make people do something.
“Those Hands That Save Without Borders,” written by Clara G. of Costa Rica, was born from a personal experience of bullying and from an intervention that, according to the author’s testimony published by Bullying Without Borders, helped her return to school without the attacks she had suffered for months.
Years later, the poem continues to travel.
The Bullying Without Borders page presents it as the most-read anti-bullying poem in the world, and the poem has achieved remarkable visibility in international searches related to bullying. Establishing the global record, however, requires comparing independent data from websites, videos, republications and other platforms.
But there is another measure that may be more important.
Over the past year, Bullying Without Borders has received approximately 1,600 messages from different parts of the world in which teachers, students and educational communities have described activities carried out after reading the poem: classroom projects, videos, readings and other initiatives.
That changes the story.
It is no longer only about how many people have read a poem.
It is about what they did after reading it.
Clara wrote about loneliness, fear and the possibility of finding a hand when everything seems lost. At the heart of her story remains a sentence that is almost impossible to forget:
“Sleep peacefully with Mom. We will take care of it.”
The poem was published by Bullying Without Borders, and the original page preserves Clara’s testimony explaining that she wrote the verses as a way of thanking those who helped her.
Now the organization is beginning to document a second story: the story of a poem that left one personal experience behind and entered classrooms, schools and educational activities in different parts of the world.
Perhaps that is its most important record.
Not simply that it was read.
But that it made other people speak.
